ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team split a doubleheader against Flagler Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 10-4, and then falling in the second game 4-3.
The Bucs (8-2) once again got started early in the first game, as Yudelmis Hernandez delivered a sacrifice fly for the first run, then a wild pitch plated Danny Lima for an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Barry put the game out of reach in the seventh, as Yan Gomes smashed a three-run home run, his fourth homer of the season to expand the lead 9-2.
Charley Short benefited on the mound, as he lasted five innings for the victory, allowing two runs, only one earned, while recording four strikeouts.
Manny Pedrozo got Barry going in the second game, singling home Gomes for the first run in the opening frame.
Flagler (4-8) bunched three runs together in the second and third innings to break out a 3-2 advantage.
The Bucs tied the game in the fourth inning, thanks to an RBI double by Chris Leon.
A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth put the Saints over the top, as they held on over the final two frames for the doubleheader split.
Barry will stay on the road to play at Palm Beach Atlantic this Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
