Women's Basketball Drops Final Regular Season Game

MELBOURNE, Fla.— The Barry University women’s basketball team was unable to hold off a second half charge on Saturday, losing to Florida Tech 74-69.
 
In the first half, the Bucs (15-12, 6-10 SSC) got out to a slow start, going down 17-4 in the first ten minutes.
Shanna Suttington provided a spark of offense off the bench, scoring seven straight points including a three pointer with 8:07 remaining in the first. Lucy Martinez hit another three with 5:23 remaining in the half to bring the Bucs within one at 23-22.
 
The Bucs gained their first lead of the game with 2:57 remaining in the half when Kia Palmer cut through the lane to lay the ball in. The Bucs would enter halftime leading 33-31.
 
In the second half, Florida Tech (18-9, 7-9 SSC) regained a 37-35 lead with 17:36 remaining when Lynisha Nelson hit a three pointer. The Panthers used a 10-0 run to open up a 12 point lead with 9:20 remaining in the game.
 
The Bucs would get close, down 67-61 with 2:37 remaining and 72-67 with 32 seconds left, but were unable to hold off the Panthers, and went on to lose 74-69
 
For the Buccaneers, Suttington had 17 points while Martinez added 16.
 
The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday, Mar 4 in the BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Championship on the road at  #1 Rollins beginning at 5:30 p.m.
