MELBOURNE, Fla.— The Barry University men’s basketball team got a big win on Saturday, beating Florida Tech 71-65 on the road. With a win by Tampa over Lynn later tonight, the Bucs would likely host a Sunshine State Conference quarterfinal gae on Wednesday, Mar. 4.

The Buccaneers (13-14, 8-8 SSC) started out in good form, taking an early 6-0 lead. Yet the Panthers fought back, going up 14-9 with 11:10 remaining in the first.

The Bucs would regain the lead, 17-16, with 9:01 remaining in the half on a Willie Whitfield layup. From that point, the Bucs went on a 23-12 run which included two Chris Uz three’s and a huge dunk by Whitfield.  The Bucs entered halftime up 40-28.

Yet the Panthers fought back again, bringing it within two at 56-54 when Demetrius Harvey hit a pair of free throws after an intentional foul by Zach Trapp. The Bucs pushed the lead 63-54 off of a Tucker three-pointer and layup with four minutes remaining in the game.
