WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The fourth-ranked Barry Buccaneer rapped out 24 hits and scored 15 runs to sweep a softball doubleheader from the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 8-0 in six innings and 7-3.
In game one, Amber Jack tossed a one-hitter, facing only one over the minimum in six innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out 11.
Shyla Rider led off the game with a double, breaking the tie with Maile Keeney atop the Buccaneer career list. She now has 47 doubles for her career. She came around to score the first run.
In the fourth inning, Amanda Goelz lined a shot off the wrist of Sailfish pitcher Ashley Jones (10-3) and the Bucs went on to a four-run inning. Brittany Anderson and Natalie Heeley each chipped in RBI singles and Ashley Likens capped the inning with a two-run single.
Heeley, Likens and Jessica Tabor each knocked in two runs, while Rider scored three times.
In game two, the Bucs (11-4) started the same way as Rider reached and came in on an RBI single by Tabor. They scored two more in the second. Three straight hits from Durkin, Collins and Anderson loaded the bases. Durkin came in on the single by Anderson and Heeley knocked in Collins with a ground out.
Brianna Smith (5-1) earned the win for the Bucs. She went the distance, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Chris Donovan (1-1) took the loss for the Sailfish (14-10), allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits.
The Bucs travel to Georgia for spring break, facing Armstrong Atlantic on Monday.
