MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team once again found the first inning to their liking, as they opened up with another six-spot in the first frame on their way to a 16-6 victory Sunday afternoon at Feinbloom Field.
Barry (11-2) loaded the bases right away, as the first three batters reached in the first inning.
Yas Gutierrez delivered a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game, then after a fly out, Yudelmis Hernandez found the sweet spot on the bat as he nailed a three-run homer over the left field fence and a 4-0 advantage.
Julio Ramos completed the six-run first, as his double to deep center field brought home Drew Dwelly and Chris Leon.
The Bucs continued to add pressure in the second inning, as a leadoff triple by Danny Lima started the inning. He then came home on a sacrifice fly by Yan Gomes.
Following a Gutierrez double, Manny Pedrozo launched a two-run homer to centerfield expanding the lead quickly to 9-0 after two innings.
Charley Short tallied his fourth victory of the season on the mound, allowing three earned runs. Five Bucs’ relievers finished the game, as they allowed just three more runs the rest of the way.
Barry will play at St. Thomas this Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m. before opening Sunshine State Conference play at Feinbloom Field on Friday against Lynn.
