Women's Basketball Falls in First Round of BlueCross and BlueShield SSC Tourney

WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball lost in the first round of the BlueCross and BlueShield SSC Basketball Tournament on Wednesday evening, falling to Rollins 67-50.
 
The Bucs got out to a slow start, going down 9-0 within the first five minutes with the help of five points by Brittainy Diager. Barry’s first points came off a Lucy Martinez field goal with 14:08 remaining in the half. 
 
Five points by Shanna Suttington in 20 seconds didn’t help much, as the Tars still held a nine point lead for the next seven minutes, up 19-10 with 7:26 remaining in the half. In the last six minutes of the first half, the Tars (23-4, 12-4 SSC) outscored the Bucs 15 to seven to go into halftime with a 36-20 lead.
 
In the second half, the Tars opened up a 24 point lead in the first ten minutes, outscoring the Bucs 14 to six to go up 50-26. Over the next three minutes, Princess Bailey scored eight of eleven Buccaneer points to help the Bucs cut the lead to 53-37.
 
A late offensive charge led by Suttington, Bailey and Martinez wasn’t enough; as the Tars went on to win 67-50.
For the Buccaneers, Bailey had 17 points While Suttington added 10.
 
With the loss, the Bucs end their season with a 15-12, (6-10 SSC) regular season record.
