MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women’s tennis team snapped a two-match skid to Division I foes with a 6-3 win over the Bucknell Bison at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Wednesday.
The Bucs nabbed two points in doubles, winning 8-4 at both number one and three, but falling 8-1 at number two.
In singles, the top of the Buccaneer lineup overpowered the Bison (6-4). Yulia Kashelkina beat Demi Iepuras 6-1, 6-2 at number three. Caroline Wendling also recorded a straight-set win, beating Paulina Gamboa 6-4, 7-6 (0) at number two. Angie Werschel clinched the match for the Bucs (7-4) with a three-set thriller over Lauren Lucido 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-0.
The Bison won at number four and five, while Berit Peterson closed out the scoring in favor of the Bucs with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Carlin Calcaterra.
The Bucs travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., this weekend to face Embry-Riddle and Flagler.
