MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The #15 ranked Barry University women’s tennis team picked up a big win against Division I UMass on Monday, winning 4-3.
In doubles action, the Bucs (10-4) won each of the three matches to earn three points. In doubles one, Angie Werschel and Yulia Kashelkina beat Candynce Boney and Maude Lecluyse 8-5. In doubles two, Caroline Wendling and Lamie Contreras beat Laura Danai and Tanisha Hodgson 8-4. In doubles three, Mei-Jing Ang and Julie Cadet beat Lauren MacKay and Kaitlyn Carpenter 8-5.
UMass (8-6) took the bottom three singles matches, but the Buccaneers prevailed in the match by taking the first three. In number one singles, Werschel beat Boney 0-6, 6-4, 6-1. In number two singles, Wendling beat Carpenter 6-0, 6-2. In singles three, Kashelkina beat Hodgson 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday, March 18 against John’s Hopkins at 3 pm.
