MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s tennis team finished off the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers (6-5) on Sunday morning, beating them 5-4. The match, which was planned for Saturday afternoon, was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.
The Bucs (11-4) used strong singles play to earn the victory, only winning one of their doubles matches. In number three doubles, Carolind Wendling and Berit Peterson beat Janelle Otero and Anne Ruscoe 8-5.
In singles competition, Berit Peterson won the decisive match on Sunday morning, beating Janelle Otero 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the six position. In number one singles, Werschel beat Regina Del Bosque 6-3, 6-4. In singles two, Wendling beat Audrey Tompkins 6-3, 6-4. Finally, Yulia Kashelkina beat Mary Bain 6-0, 6-3 in the number three spot.
The Bucs will return to action at home later this afternoon against SSC opponent Eckerd.
