Softball Spilts Pair with Sailfish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Palm Beach Atlantic, winning game one 4-2 in eight innings, but dropping the nightcap 4-0.

In game one, the Bucs (24-13) had 1-0 and 2-1 leads, but needed a walk-off, two-run homer from Jessica Tabor to secure the win.

The blow made a winner of Amber Jack (16-7) who went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six.

Ashley Jones (18-7) took the loss for the Sailfish (28-16). She also hurled a complete game, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits. She walked one and struck out six.

In the nightcap, the Sailfish struck for four runs, despite only three hits. Caitlyn Bouchet had an RBI single in the first, while Chelsea Gravini added one in the fourth. The Sailfish scored twice in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch.

Heather Laird (8-7) earned the win, tossing the shutout by scattering eight hits. She walked three and struck out two.

Brianna Smith (8-6) took the loss. She worked four innings, allowing all four runs on three hits, walking six and striking out five.

The Bucs play host to the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Thursday and Friday in a Sunshine State Conference series.
