BOCA RATON, Fla.—Amanda Goelz belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning to lead the Barry Buccaneers over the Lynn Fighting Knights 5-2 at the McCusker Sports Complex on Monday in Sunshine State Conference softball action.

Goelz erased a 2-1 deficit with her first homer of the season off Lynn starter Amber Havnar (4-8) in the sixth inning. Jessica Tabor and Sara Hipson added insurance runs with RBI doubles later in the frame as the Bucs pounded out six of their eight hits in the inning.

The Bucs (26-15, 10-6 SSC) got out on top early. Shya Rider led off the game with a single and came home on a sacrifice fly by Goelz in the first inning.

Lynn (14-24, 0-14 SSC) responded in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI single by Havnar to score Meghan Osborne, who went three-for-four out the lead off slot for the Knights. Lynn took the lead in the third as Mika Tatar laced a single with runners on first and second and two outs, scoring Kathleen Smith.

Amber Jack (18-8) settled down after that holding the Knights off the board, despite giving up a season-high 10 hits. She walked one and struck out nine. Havnar took the loss, fanning three, but allowing five runs, all earned, on eight hits.

Osborne and Rachael Larkins each went 3-for-4 for the Knights while Havnar helped her own cause with a pair of hits as well.

The Bucs return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against the Knights at the McCusker Sportsplex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
