DAVIE, Fla. – Just when the Barry University baseball team needed their offense the most, it came through.

With Nova Southeastern within a run heading into the ninth inning, Yas Gutierrez drilled a three-run home run to help put the game out of reach and help the Bucs win 10-6 Friday night in Sunshine State Conference action.

Barry (35-6, 13-3 SSC) utilized the long ball again, as the Bucs hit four in all, including a Yan Gomes towering drive over the centerfield wall to get things going in the first inning.

Nova (31-12, 6-10 SSC) keeps things close throughout, as the Sharks took their first lead of the night in the third following a no-doubt two-run blast by J.D. Martinez to give Nova a 4-3 lead.

Manny Pedrozo helped give the Bucs the lead back in the sixth, with two outs, Pedrozo golfed a 2-1 curveball over the left field fence to give Barry a 6-4 lead.

After the Sharks tallied a run in the seventh, Gutierrez helped put the game away in the ninth, as his three-run bomb to right-center gave the Bucs all the runs they would need.

Brad McAllister (8-0) tallied the victory, lasting 6.1 innings, allowing five earned runs, while striking out five and walking just two.

Barry will continue their three-game series with Nova Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
