MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team put the game out of reach over the final three innings, defeating St. Thomas 15-4 Wednesday night.

Barry (43-7) began in strong fashion, as the Bucs tallied a run in the first after Yan Gomes hit a sacrifice fly to plate Nick Shaw.

After another run crossed in the second, Barry kept the pressure on in the third frame.

Gomes, Yas Gutierrez and Yudelmis Hernandez all tallied RBI hits to make it a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.

St. Thomas (23-31) made things a little interesting in the sixth, tallying three runs to cut the lead to three at 7-4, but a three-spot in the seventh put the game out of reach.

Manny Pedrozo recorded the big hit in the inning, as his two-run single kept the inning alive with two outs and helped the Bucs cruise to the victory.

Freshman right-hander T.J. Mullins was solid on the mound for Barry, as he lasted five innings, giving up just one earned run to pick up the victory.

Hernandez and Gomes each had solid nights at the plate, going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI. Joel Keefe, Pedrozo, Gutierrez and Dwelly each tallied 2 RBI apiece.

The Bucs also moved up to No. 2 in the South Regional rankings released Wednesday. Southern Arkansas remains ahead of the Bucs in the region with just a week remaining until the final rankings will come out to decide regionals next week. The top seed in each region gets the chance to host the region, as eight teams make it into the South Regional.

Barry will jump back into Sunshine State Conference play this Friday against Rollins beginning at 7 p.m.
