Volleyball Splits Pair on Final Day of Shark Invitational

DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers split a pair of matches at the NSU Shark Invitational on Saturday, dropping a five-set thriller to Michigan Tech (25-18,25-19,23-25,16-25,15-4), then bouncing back to toppled the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-11).
 
The Bucs (3-1) dropped the first two sets to the Huskies (2-1), but rallied for the next two to force a deciding set. Samara Ferreira had 10 kills and a .471 attack percentage, while Ady Alcantara had 19 digs.
 
In the final match, the Bucs held the Mighty Oaks (2-6) to a .071 attack percentage and had nine service aces. Alcantara led the way with 12 kills, while Julia Teixeira had a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs. Spencer Rigg added 17 digs.

“I think it (the tournament) went great,” Barry head coach Frederico Santos said after the final match. “I think any time you compete, it’s a measuring stick of where you are in practice and how things are improving. We came here. We played. We saw the things we need to work onto make our season successful.”
 
The Bucs travel to the Chatham Orthopedics Pirate Volleyball Classic at Armstrong Atlantic next Friday and Saturday before returning home to the Heal & Sports Center on Sept. 15 to host Nova Southeastern at 7:00 pm.
