SAINT LEO, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team dropped their second SSC match of the year on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-0 to Saint Leo.
The Bucs (9-3, 1-2 SSC) dropped the first set to the Lions (13-2, 4-0 SSC), losing 25-19. The Lions combined for 17 kills. Melina Bukinac helped the Buc offense, serving three aces in the set loss.
In set two, Saint Leo took a 10-4 lead early. The Bucs tried to stay close, cutting the lead to 10-7 with the help of a kill by Lovisa Johansson and a pair of Lion errors. Three points was the closest the Bucs would come though, as they went on to lose the set 25-19.
The Bucs and Lions were evenly matched through most of the third set before St. Leo scored three straight points to take a 19-16 lead. The Bucs would score two more points off of a Julia Ridley kill and a Saint Leo service error, but eventually fell 25-18 in set three.
The Buccaneer hitters combined for 31 kills, led by Julia Teixiera who had seven. Libby Walter had 16 assists, while Spenser Rigg had 14 digs on defense. Bukinac totaled five aces for the Bucs.
The Buccaneers return to action on Friday, October 2 at Rollins at 7:00 pm.
