WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 3-0 decision to the Rollins College Tars in Sunshine State Conference volleyball action at Warden Arena on Friday night. The Tars took the three sets 25-20, 25-23, 25-16.
In set one, the Tars (12-6, 1-4 SSC) led 19-12, but the Bucs (9-4, 1-3 SSC) stormed back to tied the set 20-20 on a kill by Samara Ferreira. But Rollins rolled off the last five points to take the set 25-20. Mikayla Pierce had four kills.
Set two was a similar affair as the Tars jumped out to a 14-7 lead and had set point at 24-19. The Bucs staved off four of the them to close to 24-23, but Nikki Hartman closed out the set with kill.
In set three, the Bucs never got on track and the Tars rolled 25-16 behind seven kills from Pierce.
Julia Teixiera led the Bucs and all hitters with 14 kills, while Libby Walter had 22 assists. Spenser Riggs led all defenders with 18 digs.
Pierce had 13 kills and Hartman 12 for the Tars. Kiana Parks led the attack with 31 assists and Phoebe Corder had 14 digs.
The Bucs will face the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Clemente Center.
