MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Barry women’s soccer closed out the home portion of the season with a 5-0 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Buccaneer Field on Tuesday night.

Lainie Ferring scored a hat-trick, including the game-winner in the 20th minute and Melissa Madrid added two goals and an assist for the Bucs (5-10-0) who won for the third time in four games.

In the 20th minute, Ferring hooked up with Madrid for the game’s first goal. Madrid dribbled across the top of the 18-yard box and fed Ferring who rifled a shot over the head of Sailfish keeper Ashley Morrell.

In the 29th minute, Joanna Stewart fed a cross to Madrid at the top of the penalty box and she mimicked Ferring’s goal. Less than minute later, Katie Lamendola sent a pass up the middle to Madrid to out-raced the Sailfish defense to head the ball past Morrell.

Ferring closed out the scoring in the second half with a pair of late goals. In the 73rd minute, Michelle Tarasiuk sent a long pass up the right side. Sarah Wolfer chased it down in the corner and whipped a cross into the middle where Ferring gathered it in and found the back of the net.

Morrell was knocked out of the game in the 77th minute. She made a great diving save on a shot by Tarasiuk, but landed oddly on her shoulder and was forced to the bench. Kayla Webb closed out the game in goal and gave up the final score.

In the 81st minute, the Sailfish gave away the ball in the Buccaneers’ defensive third and Lamendola cleared a ball down the field to Ferring on a breakaway and Ferring’s shot slipped under Webb’s reach.

Emily Pratt made four saves to preserve her second straight shutout, while Morrell had six saves for the Sailfish (4-7-0), while Webb had one.

The Bucs travel to Winter Park, Fla., on Saturday to face the Rollins College Tars at 4:30 pm.
