MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers got the season started with a 69-60 exhibition win over Johnson & Wales in men’s basketball action in the Health & Sports Center Wednesday night.
The Bucs, who led by six at the half, pushed the lead to 21 in the second period on a three-pointer by Vladimir Raymonvil at 11:58 to play. But the Wildcats trimmed the lead to 12 over the next four minutes, as Quincy Thrower and AJ Coppola combined for four three-pointers.
Though the Bucs pushed the lead back to 17 on a three-point play by Tony Dennison with 5:54, the Wildcats continued to cut into the lead getting as close as nine on three occasions, including the final.
Dennison and Zack Trapp led a balanced Buccaneer attack with 15 points each, while Erick Nsangou finished with 13 points. Willie Whitfield added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Bryan Chiverton had eight points off the bench. Thrower and Coppola led JWU with 22 and 21 points each.
The Bucs open the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 pm against Florida Memorial.
