ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team dropped a four-set loss to Eckerd on Friday night (25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18).

In the first set, the Tritons (19-11, 9-7 SSC) took an early 10-6 lead with the help of a few Buccaneer errors. The Bucs (15-11, 6-9 SSC) fought back, getting within one at 13-12. Yet the Tritons proved too strong in set one as they went on to win 25-16.

In set two, the Bucs got out to an 8-4 lead as Julia Teixiera, Libby Walter, and Melina Bukinac earned kills. The Tritons took eight of the next twelve points to tie the score at 12-12. Tied at 15-15, the Tritons went on a five point run, while taking seven of the next eight points to take a 22-16 lead. The Tritons went on to take the match 25-22.

In set three, the teams were evenly matched throughout the early going. The Bucs took a small lead, going up 15-11 with the help of a kill by Samara Ferreira and a pair of Triton mistakes. The Bucs maintained the lead through the end of the set, winning 25-21.

The Tritons used a balanced attack to take set four 25-18, giving them the 3-1 match win.

For the Buccaneers, Teixiera had 15 kills while Stefanie Svieven added 10. Libby Walter and Julie Priester shared 39 assists and Spenser led the defense with 25 kills.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon on the road against Tampa at 4:00 pm.
