MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped an 83-77 decision to the fourth-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins in the Health & Sports Center to open Sunshine State Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday.
The Bucs (5-1, 0-1 SSC) led 55-47 with 13:30 left to play after a three-pointer by Chad Bishop. But the Mocs (6-0, 1-0 SSC) rolled off an 11-2 run over the next 1:25, led by seven points from Rion Rayfield as the Buccaneer bench was whistled for a technical foul.
The Bucs rebuilt a four-point lead, 66-62 after a fastbreak basket from Erick Nsangou at 9:26, but Terry Jenkins and Rayfield hit back-to-back three-pointers to put FSC up 68-66 at 8:41 and the Mocs never trailed.
Nsangou led all scorers with a career-high 30 points, while Tony Dennison had 19 and Marvin Davis chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. John Thompson and Terry Jenkins led FSC with 19 points. Rayfield added 18 and Brandon Jenkins had 14.
The Bucs travel over to Florida Memorial on Wednesday, Dec. 9 for a rematch with the Lions at 7:00 pm.
