Women's Basketball Wins Big Over Northwood

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball team took a big win in the Health & Sports Center on Friday evening, beating the Northwood Seahawks 73-53.
 
The Seahawks (4-4) surprised the Bucs (3-3) by getting out to a 12-0 lead early. The Bucs' first points came when Tasheema Lewis scored on a give-and-go layup from Yvonne Houston. The Seahawks' offense continued as they outscored the Bucs 9-6 over the next three minutes.
 
Down 21-8, Barry fought back, scoring 12 straight points and bringing the game within one, 21-20, with 5:43 remaining. The Bucs would enter halftime trailing 32-25.
 
The Bucs' first lead of the game came with 15:11 remaining in the first half when Mariesa Greene hit a layup to put the Bucs up 35-34. The teams went back and forth over the next four minutes.
 
With 12:29 remaining in the game, the Bucs went on a 26-9 run, which included baskets by Houston, Kisa Duncan, Christina Thompson, Mariesa Greene, and Tara O’Malley, to go up 66-49. The Bucs would go on to win 73-53.
 
For the Bucs, Greene had 18 points and nine boards. Duncan chipped in 11 and Houston had eight.
 
The Bucs return to action on Friday, December 11 against Minnesota State-Morehead at Nova Southeastern at 8:00.
