MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 73-58 to the St. Thomas Bobcats in the Health & Sports Center on Friday night, despite 50 points combined from Tony Dennison and Erick Nsangou.
The Bucs (7-2), playing without starting posts Willie Whitefield and Marvin Davis, could not find any offense besides the senior guard duo. Dennison led the Bucs with 28 points, while Nsangou chipped in 22. The rest of the team added only eight points. For the Bobcats (3-4), Antonio Jones led all scorers with 32 and David Nesbitt had 10.
The Bobcats jumped out to a double-digit lead after 8:00 minutes on a tip-in by Nesbitt and extended the lead to 15 points on a layup by Robert Ford at 1:04 of the period.
In the second period, the Bucs closed to six points, 54-48, at the 9:18 mark on a layup by Nsangou, but the Bobcats rolled off nine straight points to push the lead back to 15 at the 4:47 mark on Tracy Razz’s bucket.
The Bucs travel up to Boca Raton, Fla., for the Doubletree Guest Suites Holiday Classic on Sunday and Monday. They face Mansfield on Sunday and Valdosta State on Monday with both games scheduled for 5:00 pm.
