ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Shanna Suttington sank two free throws with :18.7 seconds left to seal a 50-46 win over the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday in the McArthur Center.
In a back and forth game, the lead changed four times in the last five minutes. Eckerd’s Taylor Young knotted the game at 45-45 with a layup on a backdoor cut with 1:17 remaining.
Mariesa Greene, who led the Bucs (8-3, 1-1 SSC) with 20 points and 10 rebounds, put Barry on top for good with a free throw at 1:00. On the next possession, Greene stole the ball and raced the length of the court for a fast break layup to increase the lead to three, 48-45.
After Eckerd (5-4, 0-1 SSC) failed to convert on their next possession, Suttington went to the line and converted both ends of the one-and-one.
The Bucs are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at Rollins.
