WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Barry Buccaneers knocked off the 20th-ranked Rollins Tars 77-64 in Sunshine State Conference men’s basketball action, Wednesday evening at Warden Arena.

For Barry (10-3, 2-1 SSC), Tony Dennison scored 20 points, while one of the conference’s leading scorers, Erick Nsangou, finished with 14. Evan White and Willie Whitfield provided the offense off the bench with 12 points each to score the only points for the Buccaneer reserves.

Nick Wolf led #20 Rollins (9-3, 1-1 SSC) with a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Myk Brown registered 14 points and also hauled in seven boards to round out the Rollins scorers in double-digits.

Rollins offense was stifled as it shot 39 percent from the field, the second time it shot under 40 percent this season, and 26.9 percent from 3-point range. The Buccaneers were 43.3 percent from the floor, while shooting 38.5 from beyond the arc. Nsangou led the way by shooting 3-for-5 on three-pointers.

Neither team shook the other in the early going of the contest. Rollins led the way for the first eight minutes of the game and took its largest lead at 10-6 with 15:32 remaining on a Brown jumper.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Dennison and White gave the Buccaneers a two-point lead, their first of the game, at the 11:59 mark. After the Tars cut the deficit to one, 16-15, on a layup by Brown with 7:26 left in the period, the Bucs closed out the half with a 21-9 run to take a 37-24 advantage into the locker room.

Rollins started off hot in the second half and trimmed the Buccaneers lead to three at 45-42 with 13:33 remaining after a Julian Wilkison three-pointer. A 10-2 Barry run extended the lead to back to 11. The Tars closed the gap to seven on two more occasions before falling back into a double-digit deficit for good. The Buccaneers solidified the victory with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch.

The Bucs are off until Wednesday, Jan, 13 when they return home to face the Florida Tech Panthers in the Health & Sports Center. The game is slated to tip-off at 7:30 pm.
