Men's Basketball Sinks Panthers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Tony Dennison scored a career-high 32 points as the Barry Buccaneers defeated the Florida Tech Panthers 74-63 in the Health & Sports Center on Wednesday night.

The Bucs (11-4, 3-1 SSC), who led by seven at the half, appeared ready to run away with the game when they took an 11-point lead, 46-35 on a jumper by Dennison with 15:15 left in the game.

But the Panthers (10-5, 0-4 SSC) closed to within two points, 51-49, on a layup by Justin Sedlak with 10:24 remaining.

The Bucs gradually lengthened the lead, pushing it back into double figures with 0:38 seconds left on a pair of free throws by Dennison. The Bucs went on to hit eight-of-eight from the line in the final minute capped by Bryan Chiverton’s pair with 0:11 seconds left. Chiverton’s steal with five seconds left sealed the win.

Zack Trapp had 14 points and Chiverton 11 to back up Dennison’s career night. Sedlak led the Panthers with 21, while Derek Hellemann and Simon Cummings each had 13.

The Bucs host the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday in the HSC with tipoff set for 4:00 pm.
