Women's Basketball Overpowers Sharks

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers overpowered the Nova Southeastern Sharks 62-51 in Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball action in the Health & Sports Center on Saturday.

The game had been close, mostly within three points, for most of the first half and the Sharks forged a 28-28 tie on a layup by Stevie Kamp with 18:14 to play. But the Bucs rolled off a 22-12 run, capped by Jennifer Lopez’s three-pointer to forge a 10-point lead with 7:00 minutes left and the Bucs (11-4, 3-2 SSC) maintained a double-figure lead for the balance of the ballgame.

Mariesa Greene led the Bucs with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Christina Thompson added a season-high 13 points. Lindsey Newpher and Abbie Tepe each had 11 points to pace NSU (9-8, 2-4 SSC).

The Bucs travel to arch-rival Lynn on Wednesday, Jan. 20 to face the Knights in the deHoernle Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., with pregame coverage starting ten minutes before on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
