MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Mariesa Greene sank two free throws with 0:29 seconds left as the Barry Buccaneers completed a 55-53 comeback over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in the Health & Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Sailfish (5-18) matched their biggest lead of the game at nine points, 47-38 with 5:58 remaining on a Selethia Jackson jumper. But the Bucs (16-5) rolled off a 12-2 run over the next three minutes, capped by a Christina Thompson three-pointer with 2:49 left that put the Bucs up 50-49.
After free throws from Meredith Treat gave the Sailfish the lead back at 51-50, Greene scored five of the next seven points, including the two from the stripe to propel the Bucs to victory.
The Bucs scored the first bucket of the game as Shanna Suttington drove the lane for a layup on the opening possession. But PBA retaliated with a three-pointer from Hayley Fields to take a lead that they would not relinquish until Thompson’s three-pointer at 2:49.
Greene all players with 23 points and 14 rebounds, while Suttington added 12 points and five assists. Nadia Tijani came off the bench with eight points and 11 boards. Ashley Dolberry, who fouled out to send Greene to the line for the winners, led PBA with 14 points. Treat had 13 and Fields added 10.
The Bucs get back to Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when they host the Rollins Tars at 5:30 pm in the HSC.
