DAVIE,Fla.—In a gutsy effort, the Barry women’s basketball team cuts a 16 point second-half lead down to six but could not complete the comeback; falling 56-48 to the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday.

Shanna Suttington led the Buccaneers in scoring with 14 and freshman Tilde Ahlin chipped in with 12. Mariesa Greene led the team in rebounds with 11 and added three points. Greene averages over 60 percent shooting from the field this season but only made 1-12 against the Sharks.

Nova lead the entire game and at the 06:35 mark in the second half stretched the lead out to 16, but with 02:19 left to play Suttington dropped a layup in to take the deficit down to six. On the next possession Nova’s Abbie Tepe converted on two free throws to extend the lead to eight with just under two minutes to play. The Buccaneers would never get any closer than six the rest of the game.

The Bucs shot only 30 percent from the field (19-63), 24 percent from behind the arc (5-21), and 63 percent from the free-throw line (5-8).

Barry now sits in third place in the conference standings after Rollins defeated Tampa today and Rollins holds the tie-breaker of Barry.

The next game for the Buccaneers is Wednesday against Florida Tech at 5:30 p.m. The game is set to be broadcast on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting at 5:20 p.m.
