MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball team fell to the Florida Tech Panthers on Wednesday night, losing 60-54.
 
The Panthers (12-12, 4-9 SSC) were hot out of the gates in the first half, going on an 8-0 run in the first seven minutes of the first half.
 
The Buccaneers (17-7, 8-5 SSC) first points came with 12:36 remaining in the first half when Mariesa Greene hit a layup to put the score at 8-2. The Bucs fought to get back in it, and took their first lead, 12-11, with 8:11 remaining in the first half when Tilde Ahlin hit a 16-foot baseline jumper.
 
In the last seven minutes of the first half, Tech outscored the Bucs 14-3 to enter halftime up 26-14.
In the second half the Bucs cut the lead to two, 30-28, off a Christina Thompson three-pointer with 12:33 remaining. Tech then went on a 9-0 run capped off by a Kristen Dixon free-throw to take a 39-28 lead.
 
Barry spent the final 8:41 cutting the Panthers’ lead to 52-50 when Mariesa Green hit a layup with 15 seconds remaining. After a missed free-throw by Lynisha Nelson, the Bucs took the ball down court and Tilde Ahlin sank a deep field goal with one second remaining to tie the game 52-52 and send the Bucs to overtime.
 
The teams were close during the opening minutes of overtime before Barry took a 59-55 lead with 2:36 remaining in overtime. However the Panthers went on a 9-1 run in the final minutes and would win64-60.
 
For the Buccaneers, Shanna Suttington had 21 points. Mariesa Greene earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Bucs return to action in Saturday, February 20 when they square off against Tampa at 2:30 in the Health & Sports Center.
