MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The #2- ranked Barry University men’s tennis team (3-0, 1-0 SSC) knocked off Florida Southern (3-1, 1-1 SSC) on Thursday afternoon, earning their third win of the year while handing the Mocs their first loss of the season.
In doubles action, Florida Southern’s Roman Schirmaier and Michael Knoedler handed a loss Marco Mokrzycki and Max Wimmer, beating the Bucs 8-4.
The Bucs’ number two doubles of team Andrew Sharnov and Ales Svigelj defeated Brian deMontfort and Ben Taylor 8-6.
At number three doubles, Sergio Velez and Emanuel Fraitzl beat Christian Lange and Guenther Fercher 8-5.
For the second-straight match, the Buccaneers dominated the singles flights, taking wins in five of six singles matches.
At number one, Mokrzycki beat Knoedler 6-3, 6-2.
The Bucs singles loss came at the number two spot where Florida Southern’s Schirmaier beat Svigelj 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2).
At number three, Fraitzl beat Lange 7-5, 6-7, 7-2. Max Wimmer wrapped up his #4 singles match in straight sets, beating Nicolas Bigler 6-3, 6-5.
In the bottom two flights Sharnov and Velez both earned wins. Sharnov defeated Fercher 6-3, 7-6(3) and Velez beat Taylor 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
The men’s tennis team returns to action tomorrow when they host Florida Tech at 3:00 pm.
