MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s basketball team improved to 7-7 in Sunshine State Conference Play on Saturday afternoon with an 80-71 win over the Tampa Spartans.
The Bucs (16-9, 7-7 SSC) reached their largest lead of the first half, 30-19, when Zack Trapp hit a three-pointer with 6:52 remaining. The Spartans (10-14, 4-11 SSC) fought back over the final minutes of the period, cutting the Buccaneer lead to 36-30 going into the half.
The Bucs jumped back to a ten point lead 12:53 remaining in the game when Evan White drove the baseline and hit a layup in the paint.
The Bucs held their ten point lead through the six-minute mark. With 4:50 remaining in the game, The Tampa head coach was called on a double technical. Trapp hit all four foul shots to give the Bucs a 65-52 lead.
The Bucs held on to win 80-71. For the Buccaneers, Trapp had 21 points. Tony Dennison had 16, and Erick Nsangou chipped in with 13.
Barry returns to action on Wednesday night when they host the Lynn Knights at 7:30 pm.
