Softball Drops Doubelheader to Panthers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader to the Florida Tech Panthers on Sunday, losing the first game 2-1 in 10 innings and the second game 4-0.
In the first game, the Panthers (13-7, 4-2 SSC) scored in the 10th inning when Sarah Oram walked a scored when Kara Dickinson’s ground ball got past Amanda Goelz at third base.
The Panthers got on the board first in the second inning, but the Bucs (18-9, 1-2 SSC) knotted the game at 1-1 in the third when Goelz scored from third on an errant throw by Tech catcher Lani Ankiel.
Jessica Bevlin (2-4) took the loss in relief of Brianna Smith. She gave up the one unearned run without a hit, walking one and striking out two in 2.1 innings. Smith struck out nine in 7.2 innings.
In the second game, the Bucs were shutout for the first time this season, as Tiffani Bishop (6-4) scattered eight hits. She struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Paula Mackin (10-2) took the loss. She worked six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.
The Bucs face Molloy College on Tuesday, Mar. 16 in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm.
