LAS VEGAS—The Barry men’s tennis team got back on the winning track with a 6-3 victory over #5 Hawai’i Pacific at the Darling Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Bucs (12-1) took two of three doubles with all three matches ending 8-6. Ales Svigelj and Andrew Sharnov defeated Daniel Luedi and Anton Samuilau at number two, while Marco Mokrzycki and Jakub Fejfar beat Sebastian Bader and Aleksander Markov at number three.
At the top flight, the ninth-ranked Buccaneer pair of Emanuel Fraitzl and Max Wimmer were upset by Dominic Mclusky and Nikola Petrov.
The Bucs went on to take four of six singles with five of six decided in straight sets. Eleventh-ranked Mokrzycki knocked off #21 Petrov 6-3, 7-5 at number one. Fraitzl, ranked #33, swept Markov 6-4, 6-1 at number two.
At the third flight, McIusky upset Barry’s #15 Svigelj 6-3, 6-3.
In a matchup of the closest ranked opponents, Barry’s #34 Wimmer handled HPU’s #31 Luedi 6-3, 6-1. Sharnov made it 6-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bader at number five.
At the sixth flight, Fejfar and Samuilau split sets with Samuilau winning the first 6-0 and Fejfar taking the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5). With the match already decided, the pair played a super tie-breaker for the point with Samuilau winning 10-6.
The Bucs close out the road trip against #19 St. Edwards on Monday at 9:30 am.
