MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team blanked the Caldwell Cougars in a doubleheader affair on Tuesday evening. The Bucs won in dominant fashion in both games.
In the second game, The Bucs (13-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Nick Shaw and Drew Dwelly reached base on a walk and a triple. Shaw came home on the Dwelly shot, while Dwelly made it home off Matt Petty hit. Anthony Iglesias would score later in the inning off a Luis Arrizurieta walk with the bases loaded.
The Bucs scored five more runs including two Petty homeruns (in the fourth and sixth inning) which drove in a combined four runs.
Tyler King took the win for the Bucs, his second of the season. Juan Meija took the loss for the Cougars (3-5).
In the opener, The Bucs beat the Cougars by a massive 25-1 score.
In the first game, the Bucs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Shaw and Yaz Gutierrez reached on singles, and were driven in by a Petty triple.
Barry would notch 23 more runs including an eight-run third inning and a nine-run fourth inning in which Harold Holness jacked a grand slam. In addition to Holness, Petty hit a homerun in the sixth.
The Cougars’ lone run came in the second inning off a Ray Keelan homer.
Aaron Main picked up the win for the Bucs, moving to 2-0 on the season while Matt Cook took his first loss of the season for the Cougars.
