Men's Golf Places Eighth At Bobcat Invite

EATONTON, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers {302-292-301—895 (+55)} finished eighth at the Bobcat Invitational at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee on Tuesday.
 
The Bucs started the day in sixth place, but dropped back two after firing a 301 on the final round. Lynn, who was tied for first after the first two rounds, shot 299 on the final round to take the team title at 289-293-299—881 (+41). Belmont Abbey, powered by individual medalist Peter Tarver Jones, moved up one spot from third to second at 307, 280-296—883 (+43), while Florida Southern {296-296-294—886 (+46)} was third. West Florida, who shared the lead with Lynn through two rounds, dropped to fourth at 289-293-306—888 (+48). Lander finished one stroke back in fifth at 304-290-295—889 (+49).
 
Jones finished four-over-par at 71-68-75—214 to claim the medalist. Barry’s Victor Billskoog was three shots off the pace at 72-73-72—217 (+7) on the par 70 course.
 
For Barry, Carlos Velez finished tied for 29th out of 90 players with a three-round score of 75-74-76—225 (+15).  Chris Carlin was two shots back, tied for 41st, at 79-72-76—227 (+17). Two shots behind him, Daniel Stapff finished tied for 50th at 76-76-77—229. Guillermo Pumerol closed out the Buccaneer field at 81-73-81—235 (+25) and tied for 68th.
 
The Bucs are off next week but return April 5-6 hosting the Buccaneer Invitational presented by Carrabba’s Italian Grill at Normandy Shores Golf Club.
 
Men's Golf Wrap Up First Day At Bobcat Invitational
 
EATONTON, Ga.—The top-ranked Barry University men’s golf team is tied for sixth of 17 teams with a 594 (302-292) after two rounds of play at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College. University of West Florida sits in first while Lynn University is in second.
 
Victor Billskoog leads the way for the Bucs after the first day. Billskoog fired a 145 (72-73) to tie for eighth overall.
 
Carlos Velez is tied for 23rd with a 149 (75-74). Chris Carlin is two strokes behind Velez with a 151 (79-72), tied for 43th overall.
 
Daniel Stapff fired a 76 in each of the first two rounds for a 152, tied for 48th overall. Guillermo Pumarol rounded out the Buccaneer lineup. Pumarol shot an 81 in the first round and fired back with a 73 in the second round for a combined 154.
 
The Bucs return to action tomorrow to wrap up competition with the third round.
