Men's Tennis Drops a Heart-Wrencher to the Tigers

MELBOURNE, Fla.—The #2 Barry University Men’s Tennis team lost a hard hitting battle against the #6 Ouachita Baptist Tigers at a neutral site on Wednesday 5-4.

The #2 ranked Buccaneers only had two singles match wins coming from Marco Mokrzycki who won 7-6,(7-2), 3-6, 6-1 over Ouachita’s #13 ranked player Jan Plewinski and Sergio Velez who won 6-3, 6-4 against OBU’s Daniel Moser.

The #6 ranked Tigers were victorious in four single matches but could not hold up to the Buccaneers doubles competition, only winning one of the three matchups. Doubles partners Ales Svigelj and Max Wimmer took down Pierre Tafelski and Jean Charles Diame 8-2. Mokrzycki/Velez were also triumphant in doubles competition at the number three spot 8-4 versus Moser and Plewinski.

Falling for the Buccaneers in singles completion were #33 Emanuel Fraitzl who lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, to Diame, #15 Ales Svigelj dropped a 6-3, 7-6, (7-3) match to Till Heilshorn, #34 Max Wimmer fell 6-1, 6-1, to Tafelski, and Andrew Sharnov went down 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) against Tobia Kuhimann.

Together both Emanuel Fraitzl and Andrew Sharnov were unsuccessful in their doubles matchup losing to the Tiger pair of Kuhimann/Heilshorn 9-7.

The Men’s tennis team will have some time to recover before they take on #4 Lynn University in a home matchup scheduled for Wednesday, March 31, at 2:00 p.m. at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
