SAINT LEO, Fla.— The Barry University baseball team split their doubleheader with Saint Leo on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs took the first game 12-6, and dropped the second game 3-1.
In the first game, both teams were scoreless in the first three innings. In the fourth inning, Ryan Garcia hit a three-run homer, scoring Yas Gutierrez and Matt Petty. The Bucs scored a run a piece in the fifth and sixth inning as the result of a Nick Shaw single and a Jack Valdez homer, respectively.
The Lions (15-19, 4-8 SSC) scored two runs in the fourth inning and three in the in the sixth to tie the game up at 5-5.
Yet the Bucs (21-8, 6-3 SSC) scored seven more runs as the result of two hits, three walks, and another Valdes solo homer.
Corey Witkowski took the win for the Bucs, moving to 2-0 for the season.
In the second game of the day, the Bucs offense was held to only run as Garcia hit a single and came home off a Chris Leon double. The Lions took the game 3-1.
In the second game, Mullins took the loss and moves to 3-2 for the season.
