MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University men’s tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to SSC-rival Lynn on Wednesday afternoon. The Bucs fell 7-2, only scoring points in singles action
The Knights (14-3, 5-0 SSC) used strong doubles play to propel them to the victory as they took wins in each of the three matches. At number one doubles, Alessandro Sarra and WIlli Wolfer beat Ales Svigelj and Max Wimmer 9-8 (8-6). At the two spot, Luca Pavanelli and Alex Voirin took down Emmanuel Fraitzl and Simon Raagaard 8-3. In number three doubles Marco Mokrzycki and Andrew Sharnov fell 8-6 to George Laffey and Tomas Racak.
The Bucs (13-4, 5-1 SSC) didn’t fare much better in singles either as only two Buccaneers earned wins. At number four singles, #33 Fraitzl beat Pavanelli 6-2, 6-3 to earn the first Buccaneer point. In the number six spot, Raagaard beat Laffey in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, to earn the second Buccaneer point.
The Bucs got close to a win in their remaining singles matches, pushing three Knight opponents to second set tiebreakers or third sets. At number one singles,#11 Mokrzycki fell to #8 Sarra 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). At number two, #19 Racak beat #15 Svieglj 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Andrew Sharnov lost to Voirin 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in number five singles
The Bucs return to action on Wednesday, April 7 when they host St. Thomas at 2:00 pm.
