MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team dropped a close ballgame to Florida Southern on Friday evening; the Bucs fell 8-6.

The Bucs (21-9, 11-2 SSC) got on the board first scoring a run apiece in the first and second inning off of singles by Nick Shaw and Jack Valdez respectively. The Mocs (28-5, 7-3 SSC) bit back, scoring three runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.

The Bucs scored a run in the fifth of a Yas Gutierrez single and mounted a three-run comeback in the sixth. Shaw was walked and Drew Dwelly reached on a fielder’s choice. Both were driven by a Gutierrez double. Later, Gutierrez came in off a Florida Southern error to give the Bucs the 6-5 lead.

Yet Florida Southern went on to score three runs in the seventh to propel them to the 8-6 win. Jake Guengerich earned the win for the Mocs, his second of the season. Brad McAllister took the loss for the Buccaneers, moving to 5-4 for the season.

The Bucs wrap up the series against the Mocs tomorrow in a doubleheader starting  at 12:00, noon at Feinbloom Field.
