MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Florida Southern Mocs completed a three-game sweep of the Barry baseball team on Saturday afternoon, taking the final two games from the Bucs. The Mocs took the first game 12-4 and the second game 17-6.
In the first game, The Mocs (30-5, 9-3 SSC) struck first and never looked back. Florida Southern scored five runs in the first four innings. The Mocs would score seven more runs including five in the eighth inning.
Each of Barry’s three runs came off of solo homers; Jack Valdez in the fourth, Yas Gutierrez in the fifth, and Ryan Garcia in the sixth.
Eddie Sipple took the win for Florida Southern, his sixth of the year. Corey Witkowski took the loss and moves to 2-1 on the season.
In the second game, The Mocs took a 4-1 lead after the third inning. Barry’s run came off a Nick Shaw solo homerun. By the middle of the fifth, Florida Southern held a 9-1 lead. The Bucs made a comeback, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth off of three hits, a walk, and a Florida Southern error.
Yet the Bucs (22-11, 6-6 SSC) were unable to overcome the strong offense of the Mocs, and went on to fall 17-6.
Gus Schlosser took the win, moving to 6-2 for the season. T.J. Mullins took the loss and moves to 3-3 on the season.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday, April 6 when the host St. Thomas at 6:00 pm.
