MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University men's tennis team picked up a win against cross-town rival St. Thomas on Tuesday afternoon. The Bucs took all three doubles matches to help them to a 7-2 victory.
In doubles action, the 18th-ranked team of Ales Svigelj and Andrew Sharnov took an 8-5 win at number one over Adrian Escarte and Esteban Mesa. At number two doubles, Max Wimmer and Marco Mokrzycki downed Jeremy Bache and Gonzalo Gayoso 8-3. Simon Raagaard and David Barragan completed the trifecta beating Federico Acevedo and Andrew Rifkin 9-7 at number three.
In singles action, the Bucs claimed wins in four of the six matches, losing at number one and number six. Thirteenth-ranked Mokrzycki beat Gayoso 6-1, 6-4 at the number two position. Wimmer beat Rifkin 6-3, 6-2 at number three. In the four spot, Sharnov blanked Bache, beating him 6-0, 6-0, while Raagaard defeated Avevedo 6-2, 6-1.
The Bucs return to action on Thursday when the travel to West Palm Beach to take on the Sailfish at 3:00 pm.
