Women's Tennis Drowns Sharks

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University women’s tennis team remained perfect in Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 shellacking of Nova Southeastern (6-11, 3-5) at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
The Bucs (17-3, 8-0) got the day off to a good start by sweeping the doubles matches. At number one, #6 Barbi Pocza and Yulia Kashelkina blanked Elisa Leeder and Paige Lindsley 8-0. Mia Fiocca and Berit Peterson downed Karolina Porizkova and Justine Feaster 8-3 at the number two spot. In number three doubles, Angie Werschel and Julie Stas beat Mary Crider and Federica Longo 8-6.
Like doubles, the Bucs took all the singles flights for the perfect score. At number one, #5 Pocza downed Leeder 6-2, 6-0. Twelfth-ranked Werschel beat Porizkova 6-1, 6-2. At number three, #40 Kashelkina beat Lindsley 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
In the lower flights, Caroline Wendling nearly blanked Feaster, winning 6-1, 6-0. Peterson defeated Crider 6-0, 7-5 while Stas took down Longo 6-1, 6-3 to complete the sweep.
The Bucs wrap up the season on Saturday, April 10 when they host Northwood at 11:00 am.
