Men's Tennis Headed to Conference Tournament with Momentum

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Every senior Buccaneer played on senior day and took home a 8-1 Over the Northwood (Fla.) Seahawks in the final match of the regular season.

Senior Andrew Sharnov teamed up with freshman Marco Mokrzycki at the top doubles flight and took home an 8-0 win to start things off for the day. The win propels Sharnov into the top three in school history for most doubles wins with 67. The senior duo of David Barragan and Jakub Fejfar paired up to defeat Joshua Eggas and Kevin Butler 8-2 at the number three doubles position.

Emanuel Fraitzl and Simon Raagaard rounded out the doubles to take an 8-4 victory over Gabriel Cernea and Daniel Abbink.

In what could be his last home match of his career, #36 Ales Svigelj defeated Eddie Elliott at the top of the singles lineup 7-5, 6-4. Svigelj’s career record moves to 29-19.

Sharnov followed Svigelj in the singles lineup and took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cernea. Raagaard, playing at number three, took a steady 6-2, 6-2 win over Andreas Parschau. Jejfar’s 6-1 ,6-1 win over Kevin Butler gave Barry a 6-0 advantage in the match.

Ruben Penate took a smooth 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles against Marco Castaneda. Rounding things out for the day, Barragan fell to Eggas in a super tiebreaker 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.

The Bucs gear up for the conference tournament starting Thursday, April 15. This weekend concludes all conference around the league, with Monday bringing the SSC Tournament bracket. Barry sits in sole possession of second in the conference with a 5-1 conference mark.
