MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team split a pair of afternoon games with the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Saturday. The Bucs took the first game 8-7, while the Sharks won the second game 7-6.
In the first game, a Matt Petty solo homer in the eighth inning put the Bucs on top by a run to take the win. The Bucs (25-14, 8-7 SSC) scored three runs in the second off of singles by Evan Ashley and Chris Leon, a Jack Valdes double, and a Nick Shaw sacrifice fly. Yas Gutierrez sweetened the pot with a solo homerun in the fourth inning.
Tyler King took the win and moves to a perfect 6-0 for the season.
In the second game, the Bucs held a 6-2 lead after the third inning with the help of a Ryan Garcia three-run homer that scored Gutierrez and Petty.
Yet the Sharks (24-17, 8-7 SSC) scored a run in the fourth and two apiece in the fifth and seventh to take the win. Eric McCanns and Haven Fitzsimmonds each hit two-run homers to help the Sharks.
In the second game, Sean Albury took the win for the Sharks, moving to 2-1 for the season, while Scott Sexton took his third loss of the season.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday, April 13 at Palm Beach Atlantic at 6:00 pm.
