MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers broke out the bats to take the rubber game of their Sunshine State Conference softball series with the Lynn Knights 8-0 in six innings. The Knights took the middle game 6-0 at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night.
Jessica Tabor went three-for-four with a single, homer and double and drove in five runs to lead the Bucs at the plate, while Brianna Smith (12-5) pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out nine without issuing a walk.
Up 1-0 after an Amanda Goelz RBI single in the third inning, Tabor connected for her team-leading seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the fifth.
In the sixth inning, the Bucs (28-20, 10-8 SSC) rallied for five runs off reliever Kennedy Lewis, who walked four of the six batters she faced. After walking Grace Collins and Sara Hipson back to back to force in runs, starter Callie Darlin (7-14) returned from right field to face Tabor who lined an 0-2 pitch down the left field line to clear the bases and put the Bucs up 8-0, ending the game.
Darlin, who pitched a shutout to win game one, took the loss in game two. On the night, she worked 12 innings, allowing three runs on 15 hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
The Knights (20-25, 4-11 SSC) scored five unearned runs to win game one 6-0.
