Baseball Upsets Tampa In Two Games

TAMPA, Fla.— After dropping the first game of the series last evening, the Barry University baseball team stormed back to take two wins from the #2 Tampa Spartans on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs won the first game 5-4 and took the second game 14-10.
 
The Spartans (39-8, 18-3) struck in the first game with two runs in the  second inning, the Bucs (27-14, 10-8) took the lead midway through the fourth as the result of a Nick Shaw run in the third and a double in the fourth that scored Evan Ashley and Jack Valdez.
 
Tampa took the lead after the fourth with two more runs, but Barry iced the first game with two more runs in the seventh. Chris Leon reached home on a Spartan error and Anthony Iglesias scored on a Julio Ramos single.
T.J. Mullins took the win, moving to 4-3 on the season.
 
In the second game of the day, the Bucs got on top in the first inning when Matt Petty homered scoring Drew Dwelly and Leon. Barry tacked on a combined eight runs in the third and fourth inning with the help of a three-hit third inning and a Leon two-RBI homer in the fourth.
 
The Bucs scored four more insurance runs to take the 14-10 win. Charley Short took the win and moves to 4-1 on the season while Josh Bowman took the loss for the Spartans.
 
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday, April 20 when they travel to Rollins to take on the Tars in a nonconference game.
