Men's Golf Places Fourth At AFLAC/Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ga.—The second-ranked Barry Buccaneers finished fourth at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational held at the beautiful par-71 6,515 yard Country Club of Columbus, Ga., on Monday.

The Bucs fired a two-round total of 578 (291-287) to finish just two strokes off the lead. The host Columbus State Cougars, ranked 11th, took advantage of their home course to card back-to-back rounds of 288 to finish at 576 to take the title. Third-ranked North Alabama (288-289—577) and unranked Valdosta State (285-292—577) finished tied for second. Fourth-ranked Georgia College came in one stroke behind the Bucs (288-291—579) to place fifth.

Barry's Daniel Stapff fired two rounds of 69 to finish at two under par 138 and bring home the medalist trophy. It was Stapff’s second career victory after winning last year’s Barry Invitational.

Chris Carlin tied for seventh at 143 (+1), shooting 71-72. Freshman Marcelo Huarte was three strokes back and tied for 18th, turning in cards of 75 and 71 (146).

Roberto Cacho (79-75—154) and Guillermo Pumerol (76-79—155) rounded out the Barry entry.

The top eight teams will now play an 18-hole, round-robin match-play event on Tuesday.
