WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team swept the Southern New Hampshire Penmen in straight sets (25-11, 25-17, 25-10) on Sunday Afternoon in a neutral-site game.
Set one was all Barry (10-3) as the Bucs took a 2-0 lead early and pushed out to 14-6 midway through. Up 19-10, Barry scored six of seven points to take the 25-11 win. Milena Bukinac had four aces in the first set and Ady Alcnatara added three.
Set two was much closer than the first as the Bucs took the 25-17 win. Southern New Hampshire took a 5-1 lead in the early going with the help of three Buccaneer errors. The teams traded points back-and-forth through 15-15 before the Bucs scored four straight, with the help of a Julia Teixeira kill and an Alexis Gandon ace, to take a 19-15 lead. Barry went on to take six of the final eight points to take the win.
It was all Barry again in set three as the Bucs took a 5-0 lead out of the gate with the help of two kills by Teixeira and one by Alcantara. Barry combined for 11 kills down the stretch to help them to the 25-10 win. Teixiera served four straight service aces late in the game and Lanie Muys ended it with two final kills.
The Buccaneer hitters combined for a .517 attack percentage. Teixeira had 13 kills while Muys and Alcantara had nine apiece. As a team, Barry earned 17 service aces. Teixeira, Alcantara and Bukinac led with five each while Gandon added a pair. Libby Walter had 21 assists to pace the offense.
The Bucs return to action on Wednesday night when they travel back to West Palm Beach; this time to take on the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at 7:00 pm. Fans can listen to the action live at GameCentral.
