Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At NSU

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.— The Barry University men’s golf team finished up competition at the 2010 NSU Shark Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Bucs, who were in sixth place after the first two rounds, moved up a spot to finish tied for fifth overall with a 890 (292-297-301). The Bucs tied with Queens University of Charlotte.
 
Lynn took home the top spot in the tournament. The Knights finished the three-round loop with an 869 (282-292-295) overall. Host Nova Southeastern moved up two spots to take second with an 870 (293-290-287). West Florida and Barton College finished third and fourth, respectively. The Argonauts posted an 873 (292-289-292) while the Bulldogs fired an 884 (292-285-307).
 
Daniel Stapff led the way for the Buccaneers. Stapff shot par or better in all three rounds finishing with a 213 (71-70-72). He finished tied for third overall.
 
 Chris Carlin tied for 18th overall with a 221 (74-70-77) while Marcelo Huarte finished tied for 32nd with a 226 (72-78-76).
 
Guillermo Pumarol and Roberto Cacho rounded the Buccaneer five. Pumarol posted a 230 (75-79-76) to finish tied for 41st while Cacho shot a 232 (75-80-77) to tie for 46th overall.
 
The Bucs return to action on November 1st when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to compete in the Queens University Invitational.
 
DAY ONE RESULTS
 
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.—The Barry University men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the NSU Shark Invitational on Monday evening. The Bucs are in sixth place with a team-total 589 (292-297).
 
After the first round of play, the Bucs were in a three-way tie for third with Barton College and West Florida. Lynn, the current leader, led after the first with a 282 while Rollins, currently in fifth, was in second after the first round with a 283.
 
Daniel Stapff leads the way for the Buccaneers. Stapff was under par in rounds, firing a 71 in the first and a 70 in the second for a 141. He is in sixth place overall.
 
Two-time defending tournament champion Chris Carlin fired a three-over 74 in the first and rebounded for a two-under 70 in the second for a 144. Carlin is tied for 12th place overall.
 
Marcelo Huarte posted a 150 (72-78) to tie for 32nd place. Guillermo Pumarol and Roberto Cacho round out the Buccaneer five. Pumarol is tied for 44th with a 154 (75-79) while Cacho is a stroke behind with a 155 (75-80).
 
Following Lynn, Barton College is in second with a 577 (292-285) while West Florida is in third a281 (292-289). Host Nova Southeastern is in fourth with a 583 (293-290).
 
 The Bucs are no stranger to success at the NSU Shark Invitational, having won the tournament for the past three years.
The tournament concludes tomorrow when the teams tee off at 8:15 am in a shotgun start.
