MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 4-3 decision to the 12th-ranked Columbus State Cougars on Friday night at Buccaneer Field.

The Bucs (6-6-1) once again had a lead against a ranked team, but could not hold on for the win.

Stephanie Parrish scored a hat-trick for the Cougars (11-1-1), including the first goal with just 2:56 gone and the game-winner in overtime. The Bucs led #5 Rollins 2-1 last Saturday, but fell 3-2.

Parrish stole the ball from the Buccaneer defense and came in one-on-one with keeper Mikaela Barboza for the first goal.

Melissa Madrid evened up the game in the 15th minute. Miranda Goransson drove the ball into the left corner found Silvia Lugo at the top of the 18-yard box. Lugo flicked it over to Madrid who finished for her third goal in the last two games. The half ended in a 1-1 dead heat.

In the second half, CSU got out on top again. Kate Walton lifted a long pass down the center of the field and Parrish ran on make another one-on-one chance which she converted.

The Bucs answered back with a pair of goals By Emma Karp off corner kicks in the space of two minutes. In the 56th minute, Lainie Ferring’s corner found Karp in the box and she flicked it in off her head passed Mary Mancin, who had started the second half in place of Willy Babillis. Two minutes later, Ferring again whipped a corner into the box and Karp got on the end of it for a 3-2 Barry lead.

In the 64th minute, the Cougars played a long pass up the right side for Leslie Matthews, who appeared to be offside. Ruled fair, she gathered the ball and fed Kate Walton at the top of the 18-yard box for an unmarked chance and Walton evened it up.

Just three minutes into the overtime period, Kelsey Bass pinged a shot off the crossbar and Parrish was there to put in the rebound.

Babillis had six saves for the Cougars, while Barboza made four for the Bucs.

The Cougars had only surrendered four goals in their first 12 games, but gave up three to the Bucs. The Cougars came in ranked fourth in defense, while the Bucs ranked 17th in goals per game.
